On May 9, the Milwaukee County Historical Society honored The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi for their 175-year history of service to others. The Sisters received a commemorative plaque during a gala awards dinner at The Pfister hotel in downtown Milwaukee.
Sister Joanne Schatzlein, director of the congregation, accepted the award from Ben Barbera, executive director and president of the Milwaukee County Historical Society. Sister Joanne was one of 10 Sisters and staff who represented the congregation at the dinner.
The Historical Society also honored Grace Lutheran Church, the only other organization to reach the 175-year mark. Other companies were recognized for their 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th or 150th anniversaries.
It was a wonderful evening for all in attendance and one with great meaning during this anniversary year. Many thanks to the Milwaukee County Historical Society for this very prestigious honor!
