In December 2023, we began offering specialized therapies to our elderly Sisters to help relieve the anxiety, pain, and muscle stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. These treatments include acupuncture, movement therapy, aromatherapy, and paraffin wax treatment (hands).
Each week up to six Sisters receive these therapies, which take about 10 to 20 minutes per Sister. They provide our Sisters with relief from pain, swelling and muscle stiffness. They also improve circulation and sleep quality, enhance joint flexibility and mobility, lower blood pressure, and reduce anxiety, confusion, and agitation.
Cost
The monthly cost to provide these therapies to six Sisters is $480. Unfortunately, Medicare and Medicaid do not cover these expenses, requiring our Sisters to draw upon their limited savings. At the same time, more Sisters are asking for these therapies, straining our budget.
